New exhibit focuses on many facets of Spring and aims to raise funds

Framations Art Gallery invites the public to view an exhibit inspired by the beauty and fury of Bound and the affects that comes with information technology.

This all-media exhibit, juried by Jerry Thomas, focuses on work following the theme "What Spring May Come?", hinting at the idea that with living in this region of the state, the season of Bound brings with it unknown atmospheric condition conditions. Artists were encouraged to explore the theme and consider nature in both its dazzler in bloom and its fury in forcefulness.

Framations is dedicating this exhibit to the victims of recent tornadoes that have ravaged our expanse. They recognize that weather and the forces of nature something that must both be respected and feared for their affect on our lives. Framations will donate xx% of whatsoever sales from this exhibition to the American Ruddy Cross, to help support clean upward efforts likewise as rebuilding in communities touched by recent tornadoes. In Gallery Two, the exhibit Faces and Places: Artwork by Affront Allen, also opens on April thirteen. Griff Williams' methodology involves an elaborate paint past number process he reinvented. Each segmented expanse of the composition is assigned to a specific color, a palette professionally mixed to replicate the distinctive colors in a 1950's Colour Arts and crafts paint by numbers set. The hand-fabricated application involves repeated layers of poured transparent resin and stenciled enamel shapes. Intially, this meticulous procedure is belied by the graphic flatness and slick surfaces of the work, which may seem manufactured or digital.

As an effort to continue supporting downtown Saint Louis' cultural fine art scene, Cafe Cioccolato will be hosting their first independent art opening on April 19th, 2012. The art opening will feature a myriad of unique artwork displayed by Saint Louis artists.

From acrylic paintings, mixed media to marble sculptures, each artwork is a unique story waiting to exist told. The fine art opening will feature artists such equally Abraham Mohler, Arlene Ligori, Kathe Cameron, Eric Nichols, Henryk Ptasiewicz, Megan Rieke, Dana Diaz de Leon, and Orikri Niperian. What better object than the teapot to celebrate 1's inflow to a new urban center or a warm welcome back. Brandon Anschultz's paintings and sculptures emphasize the tactile qualities of paint as a material substance. In doing so, they demonstrate the possibilities of the medium beyond its conventional apply to create a visual feel on a flat surface. The works presented in Anschultz's Front Room exhibition extend his expanded notion of painting and sculpture by exploring new materials and methods of product. One series features abstractions created on synthetic cream, a surface that allows the entire painting to be as an object but also provides for a painting process characterized by the absorption of paint into a infinite rather than sculpturally projecting outwards. The nebulous and dreamlike imagery that Anschultz creates in these works is further enhanced and intensified by this condition of the paint'southward saturation into the "negative" space of the foam textile. He also presents sculptural objects produced by repeatedly dipping structures constructed of wood, wire, plants, cigarette butts, and written messages into paint. This progressive repetition results in a paint-object that is actually composed of many dissimilar colors of paint, despite its monochromatic outside layer. These mysterious forms resemble utilitarian items that have either been preserved in pigment or are pending use for some strange, ritualistic purpose. Every bit such, these and Anschultz'due south other new works develop his larger projection of demonstrating the importance and necessity of maintaining a space for material experimentation and the unanticipated in painting and sculpture.

Cubed Squared, 1969, COR-Ten steel, Laumeier Sculpture Park

The Kuehner Gallery of John Burroughs School will feature sculptures by Jerald Jacquard from Apr xiii through May viii.

In his career as a sculptor, Jacquard has elevated model-making from a mere stride in the process (from artistic vision to terminal completion of a full-scale work) to an end unto itself, where the model is the completed vision. His works reflect an ongoing conversation on residue and proportion, color and shape, size and calibration.

As Jacquard himself puts it, "Models requite the artist a creative insight and liberty from the everyday globe ... They allow me to compare ideas, and they show me which ideas not to brand larger. Having the advantage of previewing unknown ideas, I feel models accept an exponential stimulating affect on the creative listen."

The John Burroughs School fine arts faculty volition exhibit its works in a mixed media show in the Bonsack Gallery from April xiii through May 8. The show is representative of the diverse interests and strengths of the section's artists/teachers.

Included in the show will exist works by department chair Anne Martin (ceramics and sculpture), Donya Allison (drawing, painting and printmaking), Andrew Denney (ceramics), Howard Jones (cartoon, painting, photography and printmaking) and Andrew Newman (photography).

Ellen Jantzen: What does loss look like? Fri, March 23 at iv:00pm

Catastrophic losses ordinarily have a face; think state of war photos, photos from the World Trade Heart, crashes of various sorts but I am interested in personal loss.

I have always been interested in alternate states of reality, but looking over my last few series, those initiated and completed since moving to the Midwest from California, I meet that I am also dealing with "loss" in some form; loss of friends, home, youth, and the ultimate loss, loss of life. Death transforms us; reality shifts, but to what?

Our move to the Midwest was stimulated past a need to help my mother-in-law as she sucumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's. I became acutely aware of not only the crumbling process, only also the vagaries of memory and the sense of loss that permeated our lives here. I started ex­ploring how a person adapts to losses; how they are captivated by events and inverse; how they actually experience loss.

I set about to address these issues through a pho­tographic photosynthesis in this torso of work; choosing photography as the medium to help me reveal and at the aforementioned fourth dimension envelop truths in a way that, hopefully, is universal. My attempt is to indicate how the corporeal trunk/listen/spirit is captivated and transformed.

Los Caminos, in conjunction with Plug Projects, presents TAKE SHELTER, an exhibition featuring Ah-ram Park, Yoonmi Nam, Erika Lynne Hanson, and Leo Esquivel, whose practices navigate the domestic sphere through photography, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, and installation. TAKE SHELTER is curated by Plug Projects every bit a response to the location and surroundings of the Los Caminos apartment gallery equally both an exhibition site and a living infinite. The selected works investigate both the physical and intangible structures that permeate our daily lives. Strategies of repetition offering moments of introspection in the midst of everyday objects, bland palettes, and familiar materials that echo the discrete patterns plant in the daily routine. The work on display highlights the tension between the comforts and discomforts found in the home.

Ah-ram Park's color photographs frame anonymous architectural spaces that are void of human presence from both interior and outside perspectives. Park's formal compositions present the viewer with moments of quiet contemplation that are somber and hopeful. They consider remarkable moments found in the mutual, overlooked groundwork.

Similar observations of our surrounding compages also influence the work of Yoonmi Nam. The toile wallpaper, created specifically for this exhibition, synthesizes traditional Chinese cartoon approaches with depictions of Midwestern dwellings in various states of creation and collapse. The wallpapering in itself acts as a reminder of domestic décor equally a sit-in of command over our environs, and a desire to enable change over i's firsthand surroundings.

In contrast, Erica Lynne Hanson'south piece of work relies on the developed abstract and reductive visual language embodied in a set of materials. Hanson's work presents scenarios where a precarious balance is accomplished through the interdependent arrangement of manus-dyed textile weavings, succulent plants, fragrant cedar planks and ice. The instability of the artificial structures both mirrors the mural and invites the viewer to contemplate the fluctuating nature of our environment.

The sculptures of Leo Esquivel are facsimiles of pillows and mattresses created from common building materials such as sheetrock mud, primer, and structure foam. Trompe l'oeil stains act as the residual evidence left by absent-minded, anonymous bodies. The piece of work, Bottom Stair, embodies a paradox, alluding to comfort and anxiety at the aforementioned time.

Colorful, bold, intense fine art that commands attention and triggers a smile that's the essence of creative person Charles E. Houska's work. Inspired by such famous artists as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, Houska creates his own pop-art mode, using a whimsical cast of characters and vivid colors, bordered "obsessively" by black lines.

Houska constantly focuses his energies on creating new, assuming, fun art to make people smile.

Though Houska's art has been called "instantly gratifying" and "energizing" by fine art critics, Houska simply views his fine art as an escape from the gloom and doom of the real world. There is no hidden message, political or religious meaning. "I paint for calorie-free-hearted, open minded people of all ages," he says.

Peter Fox: Find Your Cocky Lost

Peter Fox investigates the nature of linguistic communication and systems by exploring abstract painting. Following rigorous parameters - a primary palette and individual drops of paint - he focuses on Minimalism and Process. His working style is self-reflexive and easily off, both challenging and fascinating. He began his current investigation in painting by working with eyedroppers to apply the paint, allowing the paint and physics to shape the issue, evolving a style and language from accident. Fox oftentimes allows plant images and objects to become conceptual armatures for his work.

Play a joke on's most recent work re-investigates his spilled paint pieces. Stencils are created from the colour separations of the drips then used to paint canvas and other surfaces via brushes. Peter describes the resulting process every bit "a meta-accept on a meta-linguistic exploration."

Detect the creative energy of St. Louis' own Brother Mel Meyer, S.M., as the Saint Louis University Museum of Art presents: Providential Journey: The Art of Blood brother Mel. An opening reception will be held from 5:xxx to eight p.m. on Fri, March 23. The exhibition continues until May 27.

A Marianist brother since 1949, Blood brother Mel's fine art captures a incomparably modern whimsy that comes through in a multifariousness of sculptures, paintings and frescos. His creations bring a sense of devotion, joy and wonder. His understanding, vision and humor take enriched our lives, while his graphic symbol has brought us accurate talent mixed with a palette of promise and a legacy of inspiration. Brother Mel has fulfilled his goal to create art in a host of media ¯ everything from metallic and stone, to watercolor and acrylics, to fresco and handmade newspaper.

Several of his pieces are already familiar to those in the SLU community. Located in the Ellen Clark Sculpture Park at Grand Ave. and Lindell Blvd., these decidedly modern flights of fancy include Blue Moon made of bright bluish painted steel, besides as Circle of Green, which features larger-than-life vivid green steel figures, reminiscent of blades of grass.

The Contemporary Icons exhibition is comprised of works in diverse media, installation, video, photography, painting, etc., and nevertheless all suggest a highly engaged and provocative agreement of contemporary international neo-conceptual practices. While not specifically political in nature, many of the works are directly linked to the theme of a post-Communist Bulgaria and how images can symbolically critique or even subvert structures of power.
